Sustainability – Conservation and Community
Here at Umaria Safari Camp, our motto is "Travel that heals and helps" — embracing the belief that both the traveler and the environment benefit. Every footprint here is guided by care, not harm, reflecting the essence of responsible travel.
At Umaria Safari Camp, conservation is not just a value — it is the core of our identity. Nestled in the heart of the Kanha-Pench wildlife corridor, our eco-luxury safari camp was designed with deep respect for the land and its ecosystems. From the very beginning, we committed to low-impact development. Not a single tree was cut during construction, and every structure was positioned to preserve the natural contours and life of the forest.
Our tented accommodations reflect our dedication to sustainable tourism. Public areas are built using locally sourced waste wood and thatch, inspired by traditional village architecture. Natural floors made from cow dung and mud, along with open-air dining areas, reduce the need for artificial cooling and electricity. Unlike conventional resorts, our eco-friendly stays blend into the environment, offering guests an immersive nature experience while minimizing our environmental footprint.
Our daily operations align with eco-conscious hospitality — incorporating waste reduction, water conservation, and quiet coexistence with wildlife. We avoid noise pollution, bright artificial lighting, and any practices that may disrupt nocturnal animals or the ecosystem around us.
But our commitment to sustainable living goes beyond nature. We actively partner with local communities to preserve indigenous knowledge and create shared value. At Umaria Safari Camp, responsible tourism is about harmony — between people and planet, comfort and conscience, experience and preservation.
Empowering Local Communities through Responsible Tourism
We believe travel is most meaningful when it fosters genuine human connections. At Umaria Safari Camp, we engage in community-based tourism that empowers locals while offering travelers authentic cultural experiences.
Key initiatives include:
- Hosting performances by local folk dance troupes, creating a vibrant introduction to Central India’s living traditions.
- Celebrating regional art and storytelling, enriching the guest experience with cultural depth.
- Creating livelihoods for artisans, musicians, and storytellers through sustainable tourism platforms.
- School engagement programs focused on eco-awareness, distributing school kits, organizing fun events, and planting trees both in schools and around the camp.
- These efforts strengthen the social fabric of our region while preserving the cultural and ecological heritage that makes Kanha so extraordinary.
